UT Rio Grande Center for Childhood Studies
Located on the Fort Brown Peninsula, the Center for Childhood Studies allows UT Rio Grande Valley to expand its mission of providing an innovative beginning to a life of learning, while also enhancing the skills of the university’s students.
The center serves a dual purpose, both as a childcare facility for up to 160 preschool children and as a laboratory school for early childhood research and training for the students and faculty in education and related fields. The facility’s 16,802 sf. of space are distributed among five separate buildings.
The architecture is inspired by the officer’s quarters from old Fort Brown photo archives, rendered in a decidedly South Texas palette of vibrant colors.
